PHP Web Developer

Lethbridge

Job Description

We’re looking for a PHP web developer to join the Media32 team. Ideally, you’ll already have some professional experience working in the web development industry, and now you’re seeking a new challenge.

You should have a strong knowledge of PHP, and a keen interest in what’s going on in the PHP community, too.

You’ll be working in an open office alongside other designers and programmers, so you should be flexible enough to manage your own projects and also be motivated to solve any issues or problems you run into by yourself.

You should have good communication and teamwork skills. You probably read this zinger on every job posting, but we’re looking for someone who can pull no punches when it comes discussing a project with a co-worker, but can also effectively explain difficult concepts to a client as well.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • HTML5 and CSS3.
  • Javascript and jQuery.
  • PHP and Composer.
  • SQL (MySQL).
  • HTTP, SSL, nginx, and Apache.
  • Version Control Systems (we use Mercurial and Git).
  • Linux Server Administration (Ubuntu / CentOS).

BONUS SKILLS

If you have one or more of these skills then you’re exactly the kind of developer we’re looking for, so be sure to get in touch:

  • Relevant qualifications or education.
  • Familiarity with Perch CMS (or another off-the-shelf content management systems).
  • Knowledge of Laravel, Symfony or Zend PHP frameworks.
  • Experience with Silex or Slim micro-frameworks.
  • Experience with LESS or SASS CSS pre-processors.
  • Basic Ruby knowledge or experience.
  • Vagrant and Ansible experience.
  • Practical experience with Nginx.
  • An interest in other web technologies, such as NodeJS.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proposals: You’ll sit down with clients in our meeting area and help assess their web requirements, then you’ll choose the right tools and technologies for the job and write a cost proposal that explains everything in plain English.
  • Development: You’ll need to deliver web development work on time and within budget. Sometimes this might be done using an off-the-shelf CMS (we prefer Perch), other times it might mean building the client a custom solution from scratch.
  • Maintenance: You should also know how to configure and manage a traditional LAMP stack, as you’ll be responsible for the smooth running of our web servers and performing routine maintenance and software updates.
  • Support: You’ll help clients with their inquiries where possible. This typically includes responding to emails and answering the occasional phone call.

BENEFITS

  • We work 9–5pm. No overtime or weekends.
  • We have a health care plan for good clackers and meds.
  • We don’t mind if you’re occasionally late to the office, or need to dash off for an appointment. All we care is that the client’s work gets done.
